What are your job responsibilities?
As the Director of College Relations, I oversee the following areas: marketing for the entire college; special events, career services, communications; alumni relations; undergraduate/graduate recruitment, and fundraising.
Over the past year, I became the Executive Director of DUCA. I plan and coordinate multi-faceted programs that meet DUCA’s goals and provide rewarding academic and social experiences for students aged 16-18.
Is specialized training required?
My college degrees and professional development have prepared me well for this position.
How do you stay abreast of the changes and trends in your industry?
I remain active in national and local professional associations such as, American Marketing Association, CASE (fundraising).
What is a typical day like?
Usually in any given day, I have 3-4 meetings that are very interactive. Marketing is a deadline filled career choice. It’s exciting, stressful and very rewarding. I always spend time in the morning and evening catching up on email. I also manage 6 people so much time is spent in meetings with them. Many days I have events during the lunch or dinner hour and often work late once a week or on weekends.
What do you enjoy the most about your job?
I love being involved with all the different types of audiences at the college. I work with high school students through DUCA and recruiting, current students for events and alumni and donors for events.
I get to do a lot of fun things in Philly with alumni and that is a joy.
How much time do you spend working with the students in your roles?
For DUCA:1/2 work with students; 1/2 with faculty and staff. The other part of my job: 3/4 with faculty and staff; 1/4 with students.
